Update on f-1 & j-1 student visa processing

⚠️ CLICK HERE FOR UPDATE ON EXPANDED VISA SCREENING & VETTING PROCESS

Per the U.S. Department of State announcement on June 18, the F, J, and M student visa processing resumes while the visa process is expanded by social media screening.

We encourage students who need to apply or renew their international student visa to promptly submit your DS-160 application for Visa so you can schedule your visa appointment as soon as possible.  Please monitor the website of your local U.S. embassy or consulate for the most up-to-date announcements regarding service resumption and visa appointment availability.

In addition, there is now going to be expanded screening and vetting for U.S. issued visas. Students will be instructed by the U.S. embassies or consulates to keep their social media accounts set to “public” as part of the visa application process.

It is recommended that you review this resource to get an idea of what information and social media activity the U.S. embassy will be examining as part of the visa application screening process.

For students who have been issued their visas, or will be issued visas in the future, please review the ISS travel reminders webpage for an overview of what documents to have with you on hand when traveling through the U.S. port of entry. The documents listed should be kept with you in your carry-on bag to be able to present to the officials: https://www.fau.edu/global/international/travel-reminders/
