Shernette Dunn Chosen as 2021 COE Distinguished Alum

Four-time College of Education graduate Shernette Dunn (pictured above, third from left) chosen as a Florida Atlantic University 2021 Distinguished Alumni. The FAU Alumni Association Distinguished Alumni Award honors outstanding alumni from each of FAU’s colleges who have demonstrated exceptional service, inspired leadership and commitment to their profession and community.

Dunn emigrated from Jamaica at 16 years old. She pursued her “American dream” by earning a bachelor’s degree in elementary education in 2002, a master’s degree in reading education in in 2004, an education specialist degree in school leadership in 2010 and a Ph.D. in adult and community education in 2020. She has taught elementary school and served as the director for reading strategies and first year success at the U.S. Air Force Academy Preparatory School in Colorado Springs. She is currently Director of Reading First Year College Success Skills in Ft. Lauderdale and Program Director in the United States Air Force Academy.
