FAU CARD on iHeartRadio

Talked with Darius Murray, Clinical Mentoring Assoc and Elisa Cruz-Torres, Ed.D., BCBA Asst Dir., Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (CARD) at Florida Atlantic University. They offer free expert counseling, training and support for people with autism and related disabilities. They also offer services to their families, employers, professionals and community and governmental agencies serving them. They have a lot of programs including a mentoring program called iRISE2 which stands for Interest & Relationships Impacting Social Engagement & Employment. Students (proteges) must be from 11-22 years old, live in PBC, express interest in working with a mentor and meet other requirements that are listed on the Website. www.autism.fau.edu. They need both male and female mentors, but more male as there are more boys with autism and they are same gender pairings. Mentors have to be 21 and up, pass background checks, agree to spend minimum of 4-6 hours/month mentoring for 1 year. They also do a 5k run fundraiser and listeners can sign up to particpate online too. For more info call 561-297-4247
