FAU’s Hoot/Wisdom Recordings to Release One-of-a-Kind Double Compilation Album
BOCA RATON, Fla. (October 4, 2013) – Florida Atlantic University’s student-run/faculty-supervised record label, Hoot/Wisdom Recordings, housed in the Department of Music, will release the third installment to its CompOWLation Album series on Friday, Oct. 25.
CompOWLation Vol. 3 will be the largest release in Hoot/Wisdom’s 11-year history. The album will feature 20 of South Florida’s most talented bands, rappers, and singer-songwriters that are all either current FAU students or alumni. The album is a two-disc set divided according to genre. The Red Album will feature artists who fall under categories such as alternative rock, acoustic pop, and reggae while the Blue Album will consist of hip-hop, rap, and EDM performers. This wide selection of genres is reflective of the diversity found in the student population of FAU.
The process of creating this album began in August 2012 when Hoot/Wisdom announced its largest recruitment campaign to-date. For 14 weeks, the 100 or so students who make up the label, led by associate professor Alejandro Sánchez-Samper, searched across the entire FAU student body for talented musical performers. After reviewing more than 70 demo submissions, student leaders selected the top artists to record in two state-of-the-art studios on campus.
“After eight months of tracking and mixing, the young aspiring music industry professionals have produced a truly excellent and diverse album,” says Samper. “CompOWLation Vol 3 is by far the best album ever released by Hoot/Wisdom Recordings.”
CompOWLation Vol 3 will be immediately available for pre-order on www.compowlation.com. All proceeds from this album will go toward a scholarship fund used to benefit the talented and dedicated students of Hoot/Wisdom Recordings and The Commercial Music Program at FAU.
