Dr. Buller came to FAU from Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, Virginia, where for five years he was Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the College. At Mary Baldwin he played a significant role in honors education, and he has served as Director of the Honors Program at Loras College in Iowa, before serving as acting dean at the largest college of Georgia Southern University.

A classicist, Dr. Buller has published widely in the fields of Wagnerian music drama and university administration, and was the official English-language lecturer for the International Wagner Festival in Bayreuth, Germany. He is author of Classically Romantic: Classical Form and Meaning in Wagner's Ring; The Essential Department Chair: A Practical Guide to College Administration; The Essential Academic Dean: A Practical Guide to College Leadership; The Essential College Professor: A Practical Guide to an Academic Career; and Academic Leadership Day by Day: Small Steps that Lead to Great Success. In addition, Dean Buller has published more than 20 academic articles, over 60 administrative articles, and more than 100 essays and reviews.
Dr. Buller has held two Fulbright fellowships, is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, Omicron Delta Kappa, Alpha Sigma Lambda, and a number of regional societies devoted to the study of either Wagner or classical literature. He received a National Endowment for the Humanities summer seminar grant in 1990 to develop an overseas immersion course for Honors students, "the Ancient Greek City-State as Text."
