A Message from President Brogan:

When Florida Atlantic University went into operation in 1964 on the site of a World War Two Army Air Field, a whole new day dawned for higher education in America. The "window of opportunity" for students to attend college was suddenly expanded from their immediate post-high-school years to anytime in their lives, and, for those living in South Florida, the need to travel to Gainesville or Tallahassee to earn a four-year degree was completely eliminated.

As he delivered the keynote address at the new university's dedication ceremony, United States President Lyndon Johnson said that FAU was on the leading edge of "a new revolution in education," an era when Americans would work together to ensure that "education is no longer only for the sons of the rich, but for all who can qualify."

For the past 43 years, Florida Atlantic University has worked diligently to give those words meaning and substance, and, indeed, tremendous progress has been made. Today's FAU is serving 26,000 undergraduate and graduate students at seven locations strategically arrayed throughout South Florida's coastal communities. The University's 103,000 alumni are making their own unique contributions to every conceivable field of endeavor, including the arts, business, education, nursing, medicine, engineering, architecture, computer science and public affairs. As an institution, FAU currently generates $1.2 billion in economic activity across its large service area. But all of that is only the beginning of the FAU story.

President Johnson was inspired to look to the future of American higher education when he dedicated FAU in 1964, and those of us who are privileged to be leading this remarkable University today are building upon that vision. The Board of Trustees, faculty and administration of Florida Atlantic University have developed a strategic plan that is designed to make FAU more responsive to community needs than ever before. I recently presented to the Board my 10-year vision for our University, titled "FAU 2017 -- Crest of the Wave." I invite you to view this presentation now. I think you'll come away from it with a sense of the optimism, energy and commitment to mission that are fueling FAU's continued development. Thank you for your interest in and support of Florida Atlantic University.
