FAU to Host Events for Women’s History Month

Florida Atlantic University will host events at its Boca Raton, Jupiter and Davie campuses to celebrate Women’s History Month. The events are free and open to FAU students, faculty and staff.

The following events will take place at FAU’s Boca Raton Campus, 777 Glades Road:

Women and Flight in Florida Since 1913
Thursday, March 1 through Tuesday, May 15
Wimberly Library

Women have been a part of aviation history since the early years of powered flight, but their accomplishments have often been overlooked or forgotten. This exhibit looks at aviation history through the eyes of a number of Florida women – astronauts, pilots, aviators and service personnel – who advanced the aerospace industry in important way.

Flavors of Diversity: Woman & Cuisine with Chef Shane
Monday, March 12 at 3 p.m.
Nations Multipurpose Room

FAU’s Office of Diversity and Multicultural Affairs presents Flavors of Diversity. Students will engage in meaningful conversation on how food serves as a preservation of culture.

Let’s Talk Tuesday: Weekly Discussions
Tuesdays, March 13 – March 27, from 1 to 2 p.m.

Check out the Women and Gender Equity Resource Center’s weekly discussion topic. Enjoy pizza while we discuss “Women of Color’s History,” “Women and Leadership” and “Recent History & the Women Who Shaped It.”

Strong Introductions
Tuesday, March 13 from 2 to 4 p.m.
Career Center Multipurpose Room

A panel of feminist professionals will share their experiences in the workforce and provide insight into establishing respect in an equal opportunity future. Attendees will have the opportunity to speak with the panelists afterwards to practice their own “strong introduction.”

Herstory: Transwomen Throughout History
Thursday, March 15 from 1 to 3 p.m.
Diversity Way

Learn more about the meaningful contributions transwomen have made throughout history and the history makers that are taking charge today. Find out what you can do to support transwomen on campus during Women’s History Month.

FAU’s Multicultural Programming Board will host a Women’s History Month Sadie Hawkins dinner. 

Fierce Athletes: The History of Women in Sports
Friday, March 16 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

In collaboration with FAU Athletics and FAU Campus Recreation, The Women and Gender Equity Resource Center presents “Fierce Athletes: The History of Women in Sports.” Check out our tabling event to learn more about the history of female athletes, how participating in sports benefit women and the intramural sports we offer to women here at FAU.

‘Ain't I A Woman’

Enjoy a performance celebrating the lives and times of four significant African American Women: ex-slave and fiery abolitionist Sojourner Truth, renowned novelist and anthropologist Zora Neale Hurston, exuberant folk artist Clementine Hunter and fervent civil rights worker Fannie Lou Hamer.

Women in Action

A panel of women will share their experiences and stories on how they overcame adversity to be successful minority women. The event is sponsored by the FAU section of The National Council of Negro Women Inc.

Women’s Leadership Institute
Friday, March 23 from 2 to 7 p.m.
FAU Recreation & Fitness Center

The annual Women’s Leadership Institute (WLI) aims to empower women for a lifetime of leadership, raise awareness of critical issues women face in leadership and provide opportunities to transform awareness into action. Attendees will hear from spotlight speakers and panels.

TED Talk and Discussion: Why We Have Too Few Women Leaders

Coffee House featuring Jinahie
Thursday, March 15 at 7 p.m.

Jinahie, an Egyptian-American artist, is going to perform her poetry at this spring’s Coffee House. There will be coffee, cookies and prose.

Women’s History Month Lunch and Learn

A panel of Honors College female faculty members and FAU staff will facilitate a lunch & learn. During the event, the faculty and staff will be sharing their stories with students, as well as answering any questions the students may have. Lunch will be provided.

Join Owls Care Health Promotion for Women’s History Trivia to win fun prizes and learn about amazing women throughout history.

Wellness on Wheels
Tuesday, March 20 from 10 a.m. to noon

Wellness on Wheels (WOW) will be celebrating Women’s History Month by distributing information and swag to students on Davie’s campus. Keep an eye out for WOW to learn more about the women’s movements that are defining history.
