Experiential Education Opportunities

FAU students have proven that they are committed to making a difference in their communities by providing many volunteer and service-learning hours to address critical needs and maintain vital social initiatives.  

The university offers an exciting array of opportunities for students to experience the value and benefits of volunteerism and academic service-learning which are activities managed through various internal departments and units.  A small sample of the resources that are available to FAU students is provided below.

  • Cooperative Education
    The Cooperative Education Program allows students to integrate classroom study with periods of paid, supervised work experience related to their academic majors.

  • Internships
    Internships provide students with the opportunity to apply knowledge learned in the classroom to real settings, acquire skills, and work with professionals in the field while gaining valuable career-ready experience.  Check with your advisor for internship opportunities in your major.

  • Study Abroad
    Students can study abroad, learn a new language overseas, engage in international service learning, join an international freshman learning community, and conduct international research and specialized training in other countries. Programs are available around the world and for summer periods, a single semester, or an entire academic year. 

  • Owl Breaks
    Spend your break making a difference!  Volunteer opportunities exist in many parts of the country.  Experience a new location and contribute to making it a better place.

  • FAU Summer Ambassadors
    The FAU Summer Ambassadors Program offers selected FAU students the opportunity to train and work as summer pre-collegiate program and/or camp counselors world-wide, earn summer financial support, build relationships with and recruit talented pre-collegiate youth to FAU as future students.  

  • SAVI (Students Advocating Volunteer Involvement)
    Provides community service and leadership opportunities to all interested students. 

  • Weppner Center for LEAD & Service-Learning
    The Weppner Center for LEAD & Service-Learning invests in students to become change agents.
