Experiential Education Opportunities
FAU students have proven that they are committed to making a difference in their communities by providing many volunteer and service-learning hours to address critical needs and maintain vital social initiatives.
The university offers an exciting array of opportunities for students to experience the value and benefits of volunteerism and academic service-learning which are activities managed through various internal departments and units. A small sample of the resources that are available to FAU students is provided below.
To find out more about how these activities can serve you, check out these programs:
Academic Service-Learning (AS-L)
AS-L is a teaching and learning approach that integrates academic study with a community service experience. It requires students to apply classroom knowledge in the community and to incorporate/summarize their experiences by discussing and writing about them. To see a detailed list of AS-L classes click here.
The Cooperative Education Program allows students to integrate classroom study with periods of paid, supervised work experience related to their academic majors.
Internships provide students with the opportunity to apply knowledge learned in the classroom to real settings, acquire skills, and work with professionals in the field while gaining valuable career-ready experience. Check with your advisor for internship opportunities in your major.
Students can study abroad, learn a new language overseas, engage in international service learning, join an international freshman learning community, and conduct international research and specialized training in other countries. Programs are available around the world and for summer periods, a single semester, or an entire academic year.
Spend your break making a difference! Volunteer opportunities exist in many parts of the country. Experience a new location and contribute to making it a better place.
