ACADEMIC INITIATIVES

Academic Initiatives

Overview

Academic Initiatives are programs, services and facilities that support the academic needs and goals of Florida Atlantic University residential students. In Housing & Residential Education, we promote the academic success and intellectual development of our residents and strive to enhance their ability to graduate within 4-6 years. The Academic Initiatives team is committed to establishing relationships with faculty and staff in order to maximize the flow of academic resources for our residents. Most initiatives provide learning experiences and/or opportunities to interact with faculty and academic support outside of the classroom.

The Academic Initiatives team at Florida Atlantic University offers year-round academic engagement opportunities. Below are descriptions of our current programs and initiatives, including those in which we partner with other offices.

Get Wise Centers

Get Wise is an after-hours academic resource and student support service center located in Atlantic Park Towers, Glades Park Towers, and Parliament Hall. The centers serve as an abbreviated ‘one-stop shop’ for academic assistance. During operational hours, the APT and GPT Center is staffed with a desk assistant and available for open use, while the GPT center is staffed by highly trained learning assistants, subject area tutors and writing consultants (please see daily offerings below for specific times).

Tutoring Services

The GPT Get Wise Center will house some of FAU’s best and brightest tutors! In addition to general subject area tutoring, we will also have specifically targeted subjects such as: science, math, and languages. There is no need to make an appointment. Just check the website or give the center a call (561-297-4743) to make sure there is someone on staff to assist you. In the case we cannot provide exactly what you need during after hours, we will make every effort to find you the assistance you need.
