What's an FLC?
The Freshman Learning Community (FLC) is a group of students (usually about 22) with similar majors and/or interests in the same courses. Students can be commuters or residential students.

Components of an FAU Freshman Learning Community (FLC)
What makes the Learning Community program unique? When a freshman enrolls in an FLC, there are 4 key components that bring them together:

(1)       A Shared Class Schedule
-  Great classes (generally part of the ‘core curriculum”)
-  Ideal class times
-  Special registration (we register you for your Fall classes)
-  Unique opportunity to work with your cohort in different classes
-  Get academic support and understanding from your peers
-  You are guaranteed to know at least 20 other students in your  large-lecture classes!

(2)       Excellent Instructors & Faculty
- An SLS 1503 instructor that has a vested interest in your Learning Community’s focus
- Award winning faculty often teach the LC sections of the  classes you can take
- Connect with your academic department and faculty early (most students don’t work with their academic department until the sophomore year)

(3)       Peer Support & Mentorship
- Each LC has a Liaison who is a successful FAU LC sophomore
- LC Liaisons welcome LC students to FAU during Orientation and contact LC students
- LC Liaisons organize study sessions, social events, and serves as a mentor to your LC cohort when you need it

(4)       Unique Support Network
- Reminders and updates about FAU-related news emailed to you throughout the semester
- Special workshops, events, and activities designed to connect you with FAU
- 2 full-time staff members work with the LC program and are accessible to LC students to answer any question or provide referral to campus resources
