Facing and Defusing Angry Students

Due to the overwhelmingly positive response received after the first “Facing and Defusing Angry Students” workshops, a second round is being offered for anyone who did not have the opportunity to attend.

Due to the overwhelmingly positive response received after the first “Facing and Defusing Angry Students” workshops, a second round is being offered for anyone who did not have the opportunity to attend. The workshops are designed for staff in offices that provide services to students who can occasionally become angry, disgruntled, confused or misinformed.

Handling tense or difficult situations can be challenging, so the Division of Student Affairs and FAU Police are collaborating to provide informative and educational training to give front-line employees the foundational skills they need to successfully assist our students.

Please join Claire Good, Ph.D., Assistant Vice President and Dean of Students, Kirk Dougher, Ph.D., Executive Director of Health and Wellness; and Sean Brammer, Deputy Chief of Police, for this important workshop designed to help participants understand and differentiate anger from aggression and danger. Participants will explore how to set up safe practices and procedures, diffuse these situations where possible and respond to these incidents.

Dates, times and locations for the workshops are as follows:

  • Boca Raton campus: Wednesday, Aug. 26 and Monday, Aug. 31, 3 p.m., Administration Building, BOT room
  • Jupiter campus: Monday, Aug. 24, 2 p.m., SR 269
  • Davie campus, Monday, Sept. 14, 1 p.m., LA 139

To register for one of the sessions, fill out the form online at the Student Affairs website
