Freshman Convocation Scheduled for Aug. 16

The Freshman Convocation welcomes the incoming class of 2019 to Florida Atlantic University.

The Freshman Convocation welcomes the incoming class of 2019 to Florida Atlantic University. From the colorful processional of faculty, staff, and administrators to the eloquent words of advice from the Distinguished Teacher of the Year, Freshman Convocation promises to be a memorable and exciting start for FAU undergraduate students.

The 2015 Freshman Convocation will take place on Sunday, August 16 at 1 p.m. in the Carole and Barry Kaye Performing Arts Auditorium in the Student Union on the Boca Raton campus. Doors open at 12:15 p.m. All freshman students are asked to be seated no later than 12:45 p.m. Business casual dress is preferred.

The Freshman Convocation is the official beginning of first-time-in-college students’ entry into FAU. The Convocation represents FAU’s involvement and commitment to its newest members of the community of learners. As freshmen assemble together with faculty, staff, and administrators, they gain a sense of identity that connects them to one another and to the university.

Convocation is a ritual to signal the beginning of a student’s college career in the same, significant manner in which the graduation commencement serves as a ritual marking the completion of study. All freshmen in attendance will receive a blue and silver academic cord, which represents a commitment to achieving academic excellence and success and the beginning of a life-long connection to FAU. Students will wear their cord at their commencement ceremony four years from now.

The Freshman Convocation is free and open to all first-time-in-college students, FAU faculty and staff only. No registration is required to attend. For additional information please contact the Office of the Dean of Undergraduate Studies at 561-297-2126.
