Card Access FAQ

My Owl Card has stopped working (other people are not having an issue with their cards), what should I do?

The magnetic strip on your Owl Cards can become worn, damaged, or demagnetized. The first thing you should do if your Owl Card has stopped working is to verify with your department that your access has not been changed.

If you are certain that your access has not been changed you should:
  1. Go to the Owl Card Center and ask that your card be "remagnetized".
  2. If remagnetizing your card does not resolve the issue, we recommend getting a new Owl Card.

What is the correct way to swipe your Owl Card at a Card Access Reader?

FAU Campus employs 4 types of Card Readers.

Swipe your card with the magnetic strip facing AWAY from the machine / keypad as illustrated below.
