FAU Theatre Lab Nominated for Six Carbonell Awards
Friday, Jan 18, 2019
Theatre Lab, the professional resident theater company of Florida Atlantic University, has been nominated for six Carbonell awards. The Carbonell Awards are awarded for excellence in professional theater and are the most prestigious awards in South Florida. With only five nominations in each category, a nomination is quite an accomplishment.
Theatare Lab’s nominations include:
- Best Actor, Desmond Gallant, Be Here Now
- Best Supporting Actress, Mia Matthews, The Revolutionists
- Best Supporting Actress, Niki Fridh, Tar Beach
- Best Director, Matt Stabile, The Revolutionists
- Best Scenic Design, Michael McClain, Be Here Now
- Best Costume Design, Dawn C Shamburger, The Revolutionists
The winners will be announced at an award ceremony on Monday, April 8 at the Broward Center's Amaturo Theater.
Theatre Lab presents three main stage productions each season, along with playwright master classes, play festivals and readings. Their next show is “We Will Not Be Silent,” a southeastern premiere about Sophie Scholl, a German college student who led the only major act of civil disobedience to the Nazis during the Second World War. The play examines the role that ordinary Germans played in the rise of Hitler -- and the moral strength and courage that led a group of German students to risk their lives for a righteous cause. The play runs from Feb. 7 to 24 at the Heckscher Stage in Parliament Hall on FAU’s Boca Raton campus. To purchase tickets, visit fauevents.com or call 561-297-6124.
