Volunteers are always welcome! We would love for you to come and help us. Volunteers help us in every aspect of our department. From office work to notetaking to research assistants. Any hours that you can contribute will be appreciated. We will work around your schedule. You can download the volunteer sign-up sheet here.

- Types of Volunteer Jobs Available:
Notetaker:
Takes comprehensive lecture notes for hearing impaired, physical impaired, or learning disabled students.
Notetaker Request Form:
Students are required to fill out the Notetaker Request form for each semester they are requesting notes for their courses. This form is only to be filled out if the student has Volunteer Notetaking approved as an accommodation through their OSD Counselor. To fill this form out, students will include the following information: Course code, course name, class days/times, campus, building/room number, and professors name. It is important to remember to only list the courses you are requesting notes for on this form.
Volunteer Sign Up Sheet:
This form is to be filled out by volunteers, offering to assist students with notetaking, or any other opportunity events available within OSD. This form should include all necessary information, such as students name, phone number, email address, and so on. Please submit this form to OSD, along with a copy of your detailed schedule. If you are signing up to take notes for your courses, please highlight which courses you are volunteering to provide notes for on your detailed schedule.
Proctor:
Oversees administration of exams for students with varying disabilities.
Reader:
Reads textbooks and library research materials on tape for visually impaired and learning disabled students. Can be done in the privacy of your own home, with flexible hours.
Research Assistant:
Assists in the use of library databases and retrieving books, journals, and articles for visually impaired and physically impaired students.
Scribe:
Writes down information dictated by a visually impaired, physically impaired, or learning disabled student.
Sighted Guide:
Provides assistance in navigating the FAU campus for visually impaired students.
Tutor:
Provides one-to-one and small group tutorial assistance in various subjects to students with varying disabilities.
