 The Student Accessibility Services (SAS) at FAU has a unique volunteer system. Students who volunteer their efforts as Volunteer Notetakers are able to have their time input recorded on their university transcripts as Volunteer Hours. These Volunteer Hours can be impressive to future employers. For students who are involved with campus organizations, volunteer time can count towards Service Points. Please ask our office staff how to register with the Volunteer Center so you can begin earning Volunteer Hours or Service Points.



Notetaker: Take comprehensive lecture notes for hearing impaired, physically impaired, or learning disabled students.


Tutor: Provides one-to-one and small group tutorial assistance in various subjects to students with varying disabilities.


Scribe: Writes down information dictated by a visually impaired, physically impaired, or learning disabled student.


Reader: Reads textbooks and library research materials on tape for visually impaired and learning disabled students. Can be done in the privacy of your own home, with flexible hours.


AT Lab: Provides one-on-one training for assistive technology and equipment.


Research Assistant: Assists in the use of library databases and retrieving books, journals, and articles for visually impaired and physically impaired students.



Volunteers are always welcome! We would love you to come and help us. Volunteers help in every aspect of our department, from notetaker to tutor to research assistant. Any hours that you can contribute will be appreciated. We will work around your schedule.



The Student Accessibility Services in Boca is open:

  • Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Friday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.


  In Davie, the office is open:


  • Monday & Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Tuesdays & Wednesdays from 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Friday 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.


 In Jupiter, the office is open:


  • Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.


Come in to inquire about volunteer opportunities and give us a schedule of your availability.



Notes are uploaded through the SAS Clockwork Online Portal. You can access the portal here. Notes can be uploaded using a Word Document, a PDF, or a picture.



Complete an SAS Volunteer Sign-Up Sheet and submit a copy of your printed class schedule each semester.This will allow us to match you with students in your classes who need a notetaker. You may volunteer for tasks other than notetaking on the Sign-Up Sheet and list hours of availability.


  • Volunteers that are matched with a student will be provided a Record of Volunteer Hours form to log your volunteer hours. For example, you will receive volunteer hours for each hour that you spend in class as a notetaker. 
  • On the Record of Volunteer Hours form, complete the Date column for each time you volunteered or the date of a class for which you are supplying notes. Record the amount of time you volunteered or the length of your class in the Hours column. If the class is 50 minutes long, enter one hour. Leave the Location and Client Signature columns blank and bring it periodically to an SAS employee to sign.
