The Many Connections of C. elegans

Videography by Andre Rajoo, Stiles-Nicholson Brain Institute

This video shows the rotation of a C. elegan that was made by me in my lab crossing two types of worm lines to make a single wormd line that has both red fluorescence and green fluorescence as seen in the video. The red seen in the video represents Red Fluorescent Protein tagged to the dopamine transporter-1 promoter region, allowing us to see the morphology of dopamine neurons. The green represents Green Fluorescent Protein tagged to superoxide dismutase-3 promoter region as well. This allows researchers to evaluate the expression of SOD-3 expression as a result of experimental treatments. Researchers use this line of worms to study oxidative stress in the dopaminergic neurons of C. elegans.
