Rows of Atlantic croaker (Micropogonias undulatus) eggs, spawned at the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute, are shown as part of a project supporting the development of the U.S. aquaculture industry. This species is gaining attention for its potential as a viable food fish. The image, captured using a Leica stereo microscope approximately 15 hours after fertilization, displays the notochord, yolk sac, and oil droplet in each egg prominently. The scattered yellow droplets within the eggs are the early stages of chromatophore formation. This picture represents a delicate beginning for these fish before they develop specialized cells and organs, symbolizing the remarkable process of life unfolding before our eyes.
