In a remote rainforest of southeast Thailand, several colorful shield bugs were photographed in July 2024. After showing this picture, local guides reported not seeing it before and indicated great astonishment upon seeing the colorful insect. The function of colors in shield bugs may serve several different functions including mimicry of other organism and warning to predators. Recent research indicate shield bugs may change colors as they (a) grow from nymphs to adulthoods and (b) protect themselves from predators.
