Twig Twinning

Photo contest twig twinning

Mimicking a twig, this appears to be Phanocles, a species of stick insects or Phasmatodea. However, Phanocles is not known or found in Peru, especially in southern Amazonia of Peru. The large yellow eyes are characteristic of Phanocles, which is among the longest insects in South America. This one was about eight inches long, indicative of a female (which males are not known to reach), a known sexual dimorphic characteristic of Phanocles.
