Lorendo is a Macushi (or Macuxi) youth who recently dropped out from school in the big city about 200 miles away. Returning to his village of Surama, his knowledge about wildlife and rainforests near the borderlands of Brasil and Guyana was indispensible in the study of harpy eagles (Harpia harpyja). Scouting for a harpy that flew overhead in Iwokrama Forest, Lorendo is down on both knees looking towards the Burro Burro River, an important fishing and water source for the local Macushi community of about 300 people. He wore sandals throughout the 10-day exploration of the area rainforests.
