Uninvited Guest

During a routine check up of a cell culture, an unexpected foreign growth was discovered in the midst of the growing striatal cell population. Though it's presence did not harm the surrounding cells, its presence meant that there was contamination, requiring the culture to be discarded. While such intrusions are rare, they serve as a stark reminder that full control in the laboratory is never guaranteed and you may be met with an uninvited guest. Captured through a LED light microscope, this piece reveals the different and striking structure of the invader at the center, encircled by the culture's intended inhabitants.
