This video shows king tide flooding in Victoria Park, a low-lying coastal neighborhood in the City of Fort Lauderdale. King tides are exceptionally high tides caused by gravitational forces of the moon and sun on the Earth. They can cause sunny-day flooding, or flooding when there is no rain and usually occur on a full or new moon. As part of my research, I am documenting the extent and depth of king tide flooding within vulnerable coastal neighborhoods in the city. I am also studying how residents in these neighborhoods are experiencing and responding to these kinds of flood events. In this video, you can see how the water has covered a residential road.
