4. Project Narrative: (Must be tied into what educational benefits will be received by the students, faculty; what goals are going to be achieved etc.)

This project asks for PCs and laptops at several FAU Libraries locations.

Jupiter:  many of the PCs in the Jupiter library computer lab (consisting of 25 workstations) are not operational.  This is a request for 12 new PCs for this lab.  This lab is used for classroom instruction and is open for general use for all when not need for a specific class session.

Treasure Coast:  Long lines are occurring to use the computers on the ground floor;  these computers also serve Indian River State College students and the general public, because this library also serves as a branch of the St. Lucie County Library System.  IRSC is greatly expanding, putting even more pressure on these public PCs.  FAU students, however, have exclusive access to the computers and network on the second floor (which currently has 18 PCs).  To insure that FAU students continue to have unhampered access to the resources they need, this request is for 11 additional computers on the second floor.  Further, Treasure Coast library requests 5 laptops for student use, including use in the collaborative study rooms.

Boca Raton:  IRM recently withdrew 3 "kiosk" PCs which were in our library public areas but were not usuable for anything but leading users to IRM resources.  We would like to replace these 3 with general-use PCs.  We also need to replace two outmoded PCs that operate a microform scanner, and the KIC scanner in the Reference Department.  These machines allow users to digitize microfilm and printed materials, and download to thumb drives or print.  Thus the request for Boca Raton is for 5 new PCs for public use.

5. How is this project aligned with the Strategic Plan? Please site specific goals and strategies.

These new PCs will greatly improve student access to resources (Goal 1) at the Jupiter and Treasure Coast campuses, and will assist users in Boca Raton to make maximum use of microforms and printed materials through digitization and transmission/downloading of text.  Maintenance of adequate computing access is crucial to Goal 5, builidng a state-of-the-art information technology environment.

6. Please complete the project cost spreadsheet below. Also, please describe briefly the elements that will be included as noted below:
