Post Masters DNP

This program is designed for Master’s prepared nurses who are nationally certified in an area of advanced practice nursing to earn the Doctor of Nursing Practice Degree. The program is designed for advanced practice nursing leaders to develop skills in shaping and evaluating practice models in their own practice settings. It is a part-time program offered over 8 semesters with coursework in leadership, clinical scholarship, nursing theory, cultural competence, population health, strategic healthcare management, and evaluation. Throughout the program, the student gains the knowledge, skills, and competencies to plan, implement, and evaluate a DNP project designed to respond to a recognized healthcare concern or need in the community.

Only students with a Master’s Degree and national certification in advanced practice, administration, or clinical nurse leadership will be accepted into the post masters Doctor of Nursing Practice Program. The Doctor of Nursing Practice Degree will require students to take a minimum of 37 credits post-master’s degree, most students will need to take 40 credits. The program will accept a limited number of applicants. Meeting minimum admission requirements does not guarantee admission.

The program only admits in the summer
No GRE Required and No GMAT Required.

Admission Criteria

Post Masters DNP Program Program Admissions Criteria

Master's degree in Nursing from a university or college nursing program accredited by the National League for Nursing or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
National Certification in advanced practice, administration, or as a clinical nurse leader will be accepted into the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program.
Cumulative 3.0 GPA in the nursing master's program.
Curriculum vitae (Required Format for CV).
Two letters of recommendation from academic and professional references one of whom holds a doctorate.
Statement of the applicant's goals for the DNP degree of no more than 500 words.
Current licensure in the State of Florida as a registered nurse.
An interview may be required.

*Annual state/federal criminal background checks are required for all admitted students. A drug screen may be required. All costs for these requirements are the responsibility of the student.

Complete a Florida Atlantic University Graduate Application. You will be submitting your application via GradCas. Please make sure to select Summer as your entry date, as we do not admit in Fall or Spring.

Statement of the applicant's goals for the DNP degree of no more than 500 words.
Two letters of recommendation from academic and professional references in which one of whom holds a doctorate.

Does the DNP program require the GRE?
No, the DNP program does not require the GRE.

Is there an all on-line option for the DNP program?
No, the curriculum is hybrid, a mixture of on-line and in person courses.

Can DNP students work full time while enrolled in this program?
Having some flexibility with your work schedule may be required in order to complete the required clinical hours.

Are there concentration choices for the Post Master DNP program?
No, there are no concentration options for this program.

Are there options to choose a home campus?
No, all of the required in-person courses for the Post Masters DNP program are offered only at our Boca Raton campus

How many clinical hours are required to complete the Post Masters DNP program?
You are required to ultimately complete 1000 clinical hours overall in order to earn your DNP. We will accept your verified MSN clinical hours and count them toward the 1000.

What if I have already accumulated 1000 clinical hours prior to enrolling in the Post Masters DNP program?
If you have already completed 1000 hours in previous certificate or NP programs, you will still be required to do a minimum of 250 clinical hours in our Post Masters DNP program.
