Innovation Village: Building Tradition

Great university tradition begins with the bond that unites students with their professors and classmates. Casual and social interactions grow into shared experiences that create lifelong friendships, lasting memories and loyal commitment to one’s alma mater. A top priority at Florida Atlantic University is to provide programs and places that will heighten the traditional university experience for our students and all members of the FAU community.

Innovation Village is a key component of our vision. To be constructed in the north central area of the Boca Raton campus, Innovation Village will offer unique opportunities for living, learning, dining, shopping, having fun and building tradition.

The Boca Raton campus’ central Breezeway will serve as the gateway to Innovation Village. Two important neighboring projects, a student recreation/fitness center and the Marleen and Harold Forkas Alumni Center, have already opened. Construction has begun for the housing component and planning continues for the retail area associated with Innovation Village.

The centerpiece of Innovation Village is the 30,000-seat football stadium that will make the fanfare, festivities and traditions of Division I football come alive at FAU.

The creation of Innovation Village is an important part of a concerted effort to transform FAU. Be part of the excitement and help us build tradition for generations to come.

Florida Atlantic University's Board of Trustees took the first step in enriching the quality of campus life by unanimously approving the development of Innovation Village, a housing, recreation and retail complex that will include student residence halls, shopping and dining establishments and a 30,000-seat, open-air stadium. This addition to the Boca Raton campus will offer the next wave of FAU students the opportunity to enjoy a fuller, more involving university experience as it creates a focal point for a wide array of recreational and social activities. In the next decade, the resident student population on the Boca Raton campus is expected to exceed 5,000. A tangible example of the school spirit that is rapidly taking root at FAU, Innovation Village will also be an exciting destination for alumni, faculty, staff and members of the greater community.

In July 2010 the FAU Board of Trustees unanimously approved the funding for the stadium project. The Florida Board of Governors will vote on the issue in September 2010.

All of the work will be outside the limits of the existing conservation area (also called the preserve). This work is being completed in accordance with the specifications prepared by our environmental engineering consultants and has been reviewed with the University conservation committee and approved by the President.
