Program Overview

Florida Atlantic University strives to enrich the academic opportunities for all students. We know that not all students want the same honors experience. FAU is excited to offer our students two phenomenal opportunities for an honors education: The University Honors Program and the Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College.

The University Honors Program is located on the Boca Raton campus (FAU's largest campus). Since its creation in 1991, it has served FAU's students in providing special opportunities to academically successful students who are committed to excellence and motivated in exploring above and beyond the normal range of a college education. The honors program is designed to provide students with exceptional and rewarding learning opportunities through special honors seminars.

The advantages of the University Honors Program are:

  • Small class sizes
  • Special advising
  • Early class registration
  • Classes taught by the University's top ranked faculty

Program Completion

  • 14 total honors credits including
  • Completion of SLS 1501 - Intro to Honors Academic Life (2 credits) during first fall semester
  • 20 Total Community Service Hours recorded on FAU transcript
  • Maintain a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) in Honors courses
  • Maintain 3.5 overall GPA
  • Actively pursue honors credits until program completion (unless otherwise approved)

After successfully completing all program requirements, students receive an Honors Certificate and Cord at the Honors Awards Ceremony held each fall semester. A notation of "University Honors" will be made on their final transcript.
