Jhoann Murillo

Bachelor of Science, Mechanical Engineering

Jhoann immigrated to the United States from Colombia at a very young age and had to adjust to an entirely new country with very different culture and customs, overcome a significant language barrier and contend with the hurdle of naturalization. He eventually became a US citizen and was able to pursue a college education, following in the footsteps of his mother who was the first in his family to ever attend college. Jhoann is the first in his family to pursue an education in a STEM field.

Jhoann was actively involved in engineering student organizations, appointed as President of the FAU chapter of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) in 2020, and as Vice President from 2018 to 2019. Jhoann is currently involved with SPEED E-Racing Owls as a member of the Electrical Systems Team.

Jhoann was also a recipient of the FAU OURI Grant for his involvement in his senior design project titled "Adaptive Prosthetic Socket with Variable Pressure", a prosthetic arm socket that implements granular jamming technology designed to improve the comfort and practicality of arm prosthetics for amputees by allowing for universal adaptability.
