Researchers gear up for the annual Art of Science competition
by Martinraj Nadar | Friday, Oct 04, 2024With the 6th annual Art of Science event right around the corner, the researchers at MLAB gear up to showcase the artistic side of their research. The field of computer vision often times yields visually captivating images and videos as a by product, researchers Juan Merlos and Jefferson Charles aim to leverage the aesthetic component of their vision study to produce strong candidates for a podium finish at the event. They are working under the prudent mentorship of Ashan Perera.
Juan's intends to showcase how Artificial Intelligence (AI) sees the world, as computers perceive objects and surroundings in a vastly different way compared to humans. He believes that the different detection mechanisms between machines and humans has the potential to produce stunning visuals.
Jefferson on the other hand aims to utilize his robo dogs that exhibit similar behaviors to a real life dog. His goal is to move away from the vision heavy approach and produce a performance arts-based entry. He is confident that the performance aspect of his entry shall prove to be a winner amongst the traditional visual arts.
Stay tuned for the updates on official entries from the MLAB.
