I graduated from the CUNY Graduate Center in NYC with a dissertation entitled " Neurophysiological indices of the effects of cognates on vowel perception in late Spanish-English bilinguals". I have given presentations on this research in the USA, Canada, and Spain at neurobiology conferences. This study utilized event-related potentials (ERP) to better understand how late-bilinguals perceive English vowels. My research interests include: bilingual language acquisition, second language acquisition, speech perception, and autism.

Clinically, I worked for 12 years as a speech-language pathologist (SLP) with the 0-5 year old population, working mostly with the bilingual Spanish speaking community doing diagnostic testing. I teach the undergraduate speech & hearing science class and the phonetics class, as well as the graduate classes in evaluation and treatment of linguistically/culturally different populations, and disorders of articulation and phonology. I supervise clients in the communication disorders clinic with a wide range of disorders including autism, cognitive delays, behavioral issues, attention disorders, language delays, articulation disorders (e.g., lisps), and phonological disorders.
