Florida Atlantic faculty and staff,

As I wrap up my first official week as president of Florida Atlantic University, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to the many faculty, staff and students who have extended such a warm welcome. It has been truly rewarding to engage with so many of you, and I look forward to connecting with each of you in the weeks ahead.

I would also like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank Russ Ivy, Ph.D., for his outstanding leadership and service as interim provost. Over the past 18 months, Dr. Ivy has demonstrated exceptional dedication and made a meaningful impact on our University. His contributions, rooted in more than 33 years of service to Florida Atlantic, have been invaluable. We are fortunate to have had him in this role.

After consulting with Dr. Ivy about his long-term interest in the position, I want to inform our faculty and staff that we will be launching a national search for a permanent provost. As I mentioned during my recent conversation with the Faculty Senate Steering Committee, it is my firm belief that we must hire an exceptional leader — one who is deeply committed to academic excellence and also understands the unique nature of the Florida State University System. This person must be highly respected by peers for their leadership, scholarship and vision.

I am grateful that Dr. Ivy has agreed to continue serving as interim provost until a new provost is appointed and will remain in the provost’s office afterward, continuing to provide invaluable leadership to the Florida Atlantic community. Our goal is to complete the search process by the end of this year, with the ideal candidate joining us at the start of the new calendar year. To support this process, we will engage a search firm to help conduct the national search, and we will involve our faculty, deans and executive leadership team to guide the selection. I am committed to ensuring that there will be ample opportunities for robust faculty participation throughout the process.

I value the critical role the provost plays in the leadership of the University and am fully dedicated to selecting the right candidate to meet both our immediate needs and our long-term strategic vision.

Once again, thank you for an exhilarating first week. Florida Atlantic is truly an extraordinary place, and I am deeply appreciative for the dedication and passion each of you brings to our University community.
