The mental and emotional health of our youth is a national priority, yet many high-need schools are unable to adequately accommodate their students’ needs for counseling due to high student-to-counselor ratios and lack of trained staff.
Florida Atlantic University's College of Education is working to improve those ratios, thanks to a five-year, $6 million grant from the United States Department of Education for its “Wellness Advocates Valuing Educators and Students” (WAVES) program.
Not only will the WAVES program prepare future counselors for success through training and professional development; it also will help remove barriers to program completion by significantly reducing costs for tuition, books, transportation and certification exams.
In addition to strengthening the workforce and improving mental health for our youth, the WAVES program is helping Florida Atlantic better serve its students to ensure success for all.
