FLORIDA LEGISLATIVE INTERNSHIP PROGRAM (FLIP)

FAU FLORIDA LEGISLATIVE INTERNSHIP PROGRAM (FLIP)

Overview

The Department of Political Science is excited to announce a new program open to FAU students that provides an opportunity to intern in Tallahassee for either a House or Senate member in spring 2023. This program is in partnership with FAU's Career Center, Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters and Government Relations.

The Florida Atlantic University Florida Legislative Internship Program (FLIP) provides an opportunity for students to experience first-hand how public policy is developed and participate in the legislative process while gaining full-time internship experience and course credit hours. Interns will work for an assigned Senator or Representative in the Florida State Legislature, and learn about the role and responsibilities of elected officials and the broader environment in which they work.

Once students are selected for this Program, they are assigned to offices in the Florida House of Representatives or the Florida Senate. Each intern will serve a unique purpose in the process and have a multitude of different tasks to perform each day that may include legislative tracking, constituent services, media assistance, attendance at committee meetings, writing bill summaries and so much more. During their time at the State Capitol, interns will gain knowledge of how state government works, how the legislative process works, while making lifelong career contacts and friendships. This Internship Program is offered once per academic year in the Spring semester.
