FAU will host an event to celebrate the launch of "The Practice," a new book by Barbara Schmidt, on Tuesday, May 13 at 7 p.m. in the Libby and Harry Dodson Auditorium in the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton. The event, which includes a lecture and book signing, is free and open to the public. Registration is required at fauf.fau.edu/ThePractice.
Schmidt, a businesswoman, philanthropist and spiritual teacher with more than 30 years of experience devoted to spiritual development and research, will present excerpts from her new book which offers simple tools for managing stress, finding inner peace and uncovering happiness.
"Barb offers readers life-changing spiritual guidance in an easy to follow format," said New York Times bestselling author Gabrielle Bernstein, "and what makes this book so magnificent is that she has infused her own stories and struggles to help readers connect and learn."
Schmidt has studied with many notable teachers such as Thich Nhat Hanh, Deepak Chopra, Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo, James Finley, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Caroline Myss and Marianne Williamson. Since 2001, Schmidt and the Schmidt Family Foundation have supported FAU's Peace Studies Program, and in 2005, she helped launch a community outreach series that evolved into her nonprofit Peaceful Mind Peaceful Life. Schmidt remains an integral community partner with FAU and its new Peace, Justice and Human Rights Initiative. Heather Coltman, dean of FAU's Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters, will talk about this new initiative after an introduction from FAU President John Kelly.
