Theatre Lab at FAU to Launch Playwright's Forum and Master-Class Series
by FAU College of Arts and Letters | Monday, Sep 19, 2016FAU' sTheatre Lab recently announced the launch of its newest program the "Playwright's Forum and Master-Class Series." The series will host some of the nation's most notable playwrights to share readings and lead a discussion about their newest plays on select Thursday nights throughout the year, and then offer a 90-minute workshop designed to guide participants through the various stages of playwriting on the Sunday following the reading.
The series runs from Thursday, Oct. 6 through Sunday, March 5, 2017 and will take place in Theatre Lab's newly renovated space in Parliament Hall, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus.
Tickets are $20 for the Playwright's Forum and $30 for the Master Class, with subscription prices available. There are also discounts for students. Tickets can be purchase at www.fauevents.com, by calling 561-297-6124 or at the Box Office in FAU's Student Union.
Each workshop in the Master-Class series will have a different topic and participants will be encouraged to use the series to develop their own short plays. The short plays developed will then be eligible for submission to Theatre Lab's Short Play Festival, an opportunity for budding and established playwrights to see their work produced onstage at Theatre Lab.

Friday, Oct. 9 at 11 a.m.: Master-Class 1: The Big Idea - Inspiration and Research
Thursday, Nov. 17 at 7:30 p.m.: Playwright's Forum with Michael McKeever
Sunday, Nov. 20 at 11 a.m.: Master-Class 2: Choosing Genre and Building Plot
Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017 at 7:30 p.m.: Playwright's Forum with Allison Gregory
Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017 at 11 a.m.: Master-Class 3: Developing Compelling Characters
Thursday, Feb. 23, 2017 at 7:30 p.m.: Playwright's Forum with Carter W. Lewis
Sunday, Feb. 26, 2017 at 11 a.m.: Master-Class 4: The First Draft and The First Read
Thursday, March 2, 2017 at 7:30 p.m.: Playwright's Forum with Israel Horovitz
Sunday, March 5, 2017 at 11 a.m.: Master-Class 5: Writing is Re-Writing
