Michael Rubin holds an undergraduate degree from Pratt Institute and a Master of Architecture from The University of California at Berkeley. In 1982, he formed a design studio in New York. Before getting his architectural license, Rubin worked for Louis Kahn and, later, Benjamin Baldwin, both formative experiences. Rubin has taught at Columbia ,the University of Virginia, the University of Pennsylvania, Pratt Institute, and Parsons School of Design. He holds professional licenses from NCARB in New York, Florida, Massachusetts, and Colorado. Rubin moved to Florida last year and joined the faculty at FAU as an adjunct professor. While maintaining his practice in New York, he also has opened a satellite studio in Palm Beach, which has designed several institutional and projects in Europe including the library at the Jewish Museum Berlin, within Daniel Libeskind’s celebrated structure. Rubin’s studio, in partnership with David Kamp’s Landscape Architecture firm, Dirtworks, is currently developing a laboratory office and garden for the Sensory Trust, a UK-based organization, dedicated to creating universal access and educating businesses to the benefits of sustainability. Stateside, projects include a prototype retail shop for Nine West (Pappagallo), corporate offices for Sungard Data Systems, and continuing work for the Joyce Theater for the DanceThe work of Michael Rubin Architects has been published in Architectural Record, Architectural Digest, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and New York Magazine. The studio has won awards from several design publications, including the AIA Journal. Rubin wrote the preface to Baldwin’s 1995 An Autobiography in Design, by Norton Press.
