Honors at FAU

Students who seek an enriched academic experience are encouraged to participate in an honors setting that best suits them. Students who meet certain criteria will receive an invitation to join an honors program of their choice after their acceptance to the University.

The Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College

The Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College, located on our Jupiter campus, is the nation's only university-affiliated, free-standing honors college. This close-knit, residential, highly-selective liberal arts and sciences college offers a distinctive all-honors curriculum and is surrounded by world-renowned scientific research institutes, where our undergraduates benefit from unparalleled access to research internships.

Most of the students who are accepted into these honors programs will have total SAT scores of 1200 or higher or a 26 or higher on the ACT and a high school grade point average of at least 3.5, but exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis.

Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine Bachelor's/MD programs

The Schmidt College of Medicine offers programs which allow outstanding students the opportunity to achieve their BS and MD degrees in 7-8 years. Students admitted into these highly selective programs will be offered conditional admission to the Schmidt College of Medicine provided they maintain the required program standards. Each student will work closely with the programs' faculty and staff to develop an individual education plan and to ensure a smooth transition if accepted into the College of Medicine.

  • The Med Direct 7-8 year BS/MD program is a collaborative effort between the College of Science and College of Medicine, offered on the Boca Raton Campus.
  • The Wilkes Medical Scholars 7-8 year BS/MD program is a collaborative effort between the Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College and College of Medicine, offered on the Jupiter Campus.

Upper-Division Honors Programs

Honors in the Majors are open to all qualified upper-division students. These honors programs are offered in select departments within each of the colleges, and are designed to help students to discover the wonders of their discipline by working with faculty members on a research, creative or scholarly project.
