CALL FOR PAPERS

The Honors College is celebrating the academic achievements of its students, and particularly those students in the Class of 2003, with a Symposium for Honors College students, parents, faculty, staff, university administration, and community members.

Many Honors College students are engaged in interesting research and creative activities.  These activities include senior thesis projects required for graduation.  The Honors College Symposium will showcase these students and their projects with a series of concurrent talks and a poster session.

Students with completed or ongoing research and/or creative works are invited to participate by submitting abstracts for 15-minute talks, poster presentations, or both.

Submission Instructions and Deadlines

Abstracts:  Abstracts of 150 words or less, together with the type of presentation (poster or paper), title, and author(s) must be received by Tuesday, March 25th.  Detailed instructions for submission and an abstract submission form (in MS Word format) are available on the web at http://www.fau.edu/~sfitchet/rd/abstracts.html.  Please use the abstract form provided, and email completed forms to Kathryn Haupt in the Dean’s office at khaupt@fau.edu.

Additional information for Posters:  Guidelines for posters, as well as a poster template (in Power Point format) are available at http://www.fau.edu/~sfitchet/rd/posters.html.  Please use the poster template for all posters.  The final version of your poster must be submitted by 8:00 a.m. on Monday, April 7th, for printing.  The Honors College will print ONE poster for each accepted poster abstract (on Tuesday, April 8th), and presenters will be able to examine their posters before putting them up on Friday.  Poster printings beyond the first will cost $25 each.

Additional information for Papers:  Papers (talks) will be 15 minutes long, with 5 minutes for questions between successive talks.  Papers may be read, or talks may be given using Power Point or transparencies and an overhead projector.  Suggestions for preparing scientific talks are available at papers.html.

Professional Courtesy:  Please keep in mind that if you submit an abstract for a paper or poster, you are committing to making a presentation at the Symposium.  Backing out of a talk at a conference is unacceptable in the academic world, except in cases of absolute emergency.  When papers are withdrawn after acceptance, some professional organizations will bar the contributor from making another presentation for two years.  The Honors College Symposium will be a professional conference, and presenters are expected to treat it as such.
