Professor Suman Basuroy graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Summa Cum Laude majoring in Economics with Honors in Mathematics from Brandeis University, Waltham, Mass. He was awarded the Arnold Shapiro Prize in Mathematics from Brandeis University. He obtained his Masters in Economics from Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA, and his Ph.D. in Marketing from the University of Pittsburgh, PA, under Dr. Wagner A. Kamakura currently the Ford Motor Company Professor of Global Marketing at Duke University.

Before joining Florida Atlantic University, Suman had taught at the School of Management, University at Buffalo, New York, and at the School of Business, Rutgers University, New Jersey. At the University at Buffalo he received a Teaching Award in 2002 from the MBA students and a Certificate of Recognition for his teaching in 2005. In 2007 he was the Finalist for the Exceptional Faculty Award at Florida Atlantic University’s Jupiter campus.

In 2007 he won the Researcher of the Year Award from the Barry Kaye College of Business, Florida Atlantic University. He has been elected Senior Fellow of the Carl De Santis Center for the Motion Picture Studies in 2007. His key research interests include marketing of the motion pictures and retailing. Suman has published more than a dozen academic papers in numerous prestigious national and international journals such as Management Science, Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Business, Quantitative Marketing and Economics, Journal of Consumer Psychology, International Journal of Research in Marketing, Journal of Behavioral Decision Making, Marketing Letters, Psychology and Marketing, Journal of Cultural Economics and several others. He has given invited talks at many national and international universities including the University of Miami, University of Florida, Indiana University-Bloomington, SUNY Stony-Brook, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada, Norwegian Business Institute in Sandvika, Norway, University of Bocconi in Milan, Italy, Indian Institute of Management, among others. His research has been featured widely in the media including the Money magazine and National Public Radio.

His research has been funded twice (2001 and 2006) by the International Council of Shopping Center Research in New York. He is also the recent recipient of a grant from the Carl De Santis Center for Motion Pictures Studies at FAU.

He was a member of the Board of Directors of Center for Exploratory Photography and Art (CEPA) Gallery, based in Buffalo, New York between 2002 and 2005, and was a Co-Chair of CEPA’s 2004 Biennial Art Auction. He is interested in photography, art, film and literature. He is married to artist Raksha P. Basuroy and lives in Jupiter, Florida.
