Welcome to the Weppner Center for Civic Engagement & Service! At the CCES, we are committed to recognizing community needs and working with students, faculty, and staff to fill those needs. We uphold the values of leadership, dedication, unity, and service, with the intent of fostering a humanitarian attitude in whom we serve.
FAU’s Weppner Center for Civic Engagement and Service works to foster civic awareness in the FAU community by developing partnerships between the University and community. These partnerships provide service opportunities to faculty, staff, and students and promote the link between the curriculum and service. The goal of the WCCES is to inspire in all a greater appreciation for civic responsibility and community service along with the desire to continue working for the community beyond the college years.
The WCCES assists both local and national nonprofit organizations by providing them with the volunteers needed to accomplish their goals. Students Advocating Volunteer Involvement, a student government organization, aids the Weppner Center in spreading student civic engagement opportunities across the University community. The WCCES also facilitates the opportunity for faculty and students to combine coursework with the needs of the community through academic service-learning courses. These courses are designed to enrich the learning experience through hands-on activity and by teaching civic responsibility. Through the integration of instruction, community service, and reflection, learning becomes more personally meaningful. Inquire with the WCCES for courses designated as academic service-learning. Volunteer hours and academic service-learning hours served at any nonprofit agency while as an FAU student may be recorded on a student’s transcript through the WCCES.
We invite you to visit us at any time in our office in the Student Services building (SS8), room 225. We look forward to seeing you soon!
