FAU STUDENT SWEATMONKEY INSTRUCTIONAL GUIDE

NEW Requirements for Academic Service-Learning Students

The Weppner Center for Civic Engagement & Service (WCCES) is going paperless! Beginning in Spring 2011, students are required to complete the following in the order listed for Academic Service-Learning Courses:

  1. Review a presentation, “What is Academic Service-Learning?  Student Version”, prior to beginning your academic service-learning project and completing hours in the community. Click here for the Presentation. After reviewing the presentation, complete an electronic Pre-Assessment Survey found on the presentation.

  2. Complete an “Academic Service-Learning Risk Waiver” form once location of service has been identified. The waiver may be found on the WCCES website, www.fau.edu/volunteer, under Forms, Academic Service-Learning. Waivers are to be collected by your instructor. 

  3. Track Academic Service-Learning Hours electronically through SweatMonkey, www.sweatmonkey.org. Click here for the FAU Student SweatMonkey Instructional Guide. This guide will help you set up a FREE account with SweatMonkey and show how to track your hours.

  4. The Spring 2011 deadline for submitting Academic Service-Learning hours with all approvals is Friday, April 22, 2011. The hours will be reported to the Registrar’s office for posting to your official transcript—a benefit for your future employment or professional/graduate school enrollment.

  5. At the end of your Academic Service-Learning project, complete an electronic Post-Assessment Survey on your Academic Service-Learning experience. The link to the Survey will be available in early April on the WCCES website: www.fau.edu/volunteer .

FAU FACULTY SWEATMONKEY INSTRUCTIONAL GUIDE

NEW Requirement for Academic Service-Learning Faculty

The Weppner Center for Civic Engagement & Service (WCCES) is going paperless! Beginning in Spring 2011, faculty who teach Academic Service-Learning Courses will need to set up their course on SweatMonkey to insure that Academic Service-Learning hours completed by students are tracked by each instructor, course, and section.

  • An instructional guide on how to use SweatMonkey is available. Click here for the FAU Faculty SweatMonkey Instructional Guide.
  • Faculty will have final accreditation of a student’s Academic Service-Learning hours through SweatMonkey.org.
  • Faculty are requested to collect and keep on file until the end of the semester the “Academic Service-Learning Risk Waiver” form that students are to complete once location of service has been identified. At the end of the semester, faculty may send the forms to the Weppner Center Office in SS 228B, attention Nori Carter , to be kept on file for 3 years. The waiver may be found on the WCCES website, www.fau.edu/volunteer, under Forms, Academic Service-Learning.

New requirements for Academic Service-Learning students have been implemented. Below is a list of the new requirements. Please note that the Weppner Center staff will be happy to give your class a 20-minute presentation on “What is Academic Service-Learning? Student Version”. If you would like to schedule this opportunity, please email Nori Carter at ncarte10@fau.edu with two date options, time, and location of class.

After reviewing the PowerPoint, complete a Pre-Assessment Survey electronically through Survey Monkey found on the PowerPoint.
  • Complete an Academic Service-Learning Waiver once location of service has been identified. Waivers are to be collected by the instructor and kept on file until the end of the semester at which time they may be submitted to the Weppner Center Office in SS 228B, attention Nori Carter , to be kept on file for 3 years.

FAU ORGANIZATION SWEATMONKEY INSTRUCTIONAL GUIDE

NEW Requirement for Organizations with FAU Academic Service-Learning Students

The Weppner Center for Civic Engagement & Service (WCCES) is going paperless! Beginning in Spring 2011, Organizations who have FAU Academic Service-Learning students completing hours at their Organization will need to set up their FREE Organization account on SweatMonkey to insure that Academic Service-Learning students can track and have their hours approved through your Organization.
