profile

Major/Program of Study: MA in Spanish from the Languages, Linguistics and Comparative Literature (LLCL); PhD in Comparative Studies in the Culture, Languages and Literature (CLL)

Areas of Focus/Research Interests: human rights, women’s rights, development and gender issues, grant proposal writing, and translation

I enjoy working with writers at any point in the process so that they can develop their own ideas, express what they want to say, and follow the format that is appropriate for the writing assignment at hand. I also like video production and writing narrative scripts. My research will focus on literature and other cultural production in Paraguay, particularly women’s creative work studies from a gender and translation perspective. Studying and enjoying language and literature, in Spanish and English, are my life-long endeavors and I have used them in many settings. Currently I am working on a literary translation of a novel by Paraguayan author Josefina Plá, an excerpt of which is published in the online literary journal Latin American Literature Today (LALT). The UCEW is a great place to share our work and get constructive feedback that helps us prove our assignments and writing in general. I am looking forward to meeting you.

Major/Program of Study:  BA in English Literature, minor in Women’s Studies (Hons)

Areas of Focus/Research Interests: literary studies

Hi! My name is Ashley. I graduated summa cum laude from the Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College of FAU. My aspirations include becoming a college professor and an editor. In addition to my role as a writing consultant at the UCEW (a position I have held for over two years), I am currently working as a teaching assistant for two honors sociology/women’s studies courses and have served as an editorial intern for AGL Information & Technology, LLC. I have been published in the Proceedings, the Radio Club of America’s nationally circulated technical journal, and the Sigma Tau Delta Review, the International English Honor Society’s annual journal of literary criticism, rhetoric/composition, and writing pedagogy. For me, writing is not a chore or homework, but a passion that I have cultivated and enjoy thoroughly. I will never forget the childish glee I felt as a young girl setting my pen to paper and unveiling my imagination to the world beyond my mind. That incredible feeling is what I experience every time I write, and I seek to instill a similar passion and appreciation for literature and writing among my fellow students and colleagues.

Dani

Major/Program of Study: MFA in Poetry; BA in English, minor in Art History

Areas of Focus/Research Interests: psychology, philosophy/religion, spirituality, literature, the arts, and other humanities

Hello, my name is Daniel Marino, but please, call me 'Dani.' I’m very interested in how personal narratives shape our experience of reality. How does our perception of the past affect our present? How will these perceptions shape our actions and the people we’re slowly becoming? Do our actions align with our sense of self, and is there dissonance and/or inauthenticity? Aside from research, reading and writing, I enjoy writing music: a blend of jazz, R&B, and soul. I enjoy traveling, and have been to several countries in South America, and several in Europe. I hope to travel to East Asia someday, specifically Japan and South Korea.

Major/Program of Study: Political Science (Hons)

Areas of Focus/Research Interests: political philosophy of religion, speech, and privacy; legal theory

Hi there, my name is Josh (he/him). I work best with Chicago and APA styles, and with academic, theory-based papers, but I’m happy to help with any type of writing assignment—coursework, theses, applications—and any stage of writing—revising, outlining, procrastinating. I’m least adept at fictional works; I'm not very creative. Everybody—good writers and bad—can benefit from a visit to the UCEW—to get help with grammar, to work through a difficult reading or prompt, to discuss a draft, even just to talk about ideas—so I hope I’ll see you around here soon.
