Thank you for your interest in our research study! Read on to learn more about it and how you can help.

What is it?

In an effort to better help our clients, the UCEW is undertaking a research study to determine the best strategies for working through common consultation challenges. The first step is to video record our consultations. Once we have a collected these recordings, we will review them to find the moments where a consultant has to choose a tutoring technique. We hope to find out which techniques work best in which situations. What consultant decisions lead to the most successful outcomes? We hope to be able to use these conclusions to help train new consultants

The second part of our study will be to compare the techniques used and their success with personality types. Do certain techniques work better with certain personality types than others? Could using client personality types help consultants deliver more effective tutoring?

We hope to be able to answer these questions at the end of the study, and we hope you can help!

What do I have to do?

If you are interested in participating in the study, there are a few things to know:

  • You agree to be video and audio recorded during your session
  • You will need some extra time at the beginning of the session to read and sign the consent form. Plan on another 10 minutes at the end of the session to complete an online survey and questionnaire

And remember:

  • Participation is completely voluntary
  • We will record your image, but we will never use your name
  • If you change your mind, you can withdraw from the study at any time

What about that extra appointment?

Each client who participates will receive a card that entitles you to an extra half-hour appointment in addition to what you are usually allowed. You can participate in the study once per semester.

What's the next step?

If you would like to participate, all you have to do let your consultant know when you arrive for your appointment. If you want to let us know in advance, so we can speed up the process, simply tell us you want to participate in the study by leaving us a note when you book the appointment. Not all consultants are participating in the study, so if you would like to participate, book an appointment with:
