Associate/Assistant Professor (Position Number: 990797)

The School of Urban and Regional Planning at Florida Atlantic University is seeking to expand its faculty with an Associate or senior Assistant Professor to begin in August 2010.We are looking for a new, energetic, faculty member that can help us to further define and shape our vision for the School, and provide leadership for the graduate program.

The new faculty member should be a nationally recognized scholar with a strong and innovative research agenda, a demonstrated ability to secure funding in their area of expertise and preferably some administrative experience.    Candidates for the position should have a Ph.D. in planning or a closely related field, have a strong research agenda and a commitment to excellence in teaching and service.  Salaries are competitive and commensurate with experience.  Interested candidates should apply on-line at https://jobs.fau.edu, no later than November 18, 2009.

The School of Urban and Regional Planning is a locus of scholars, teachers, practitioners, agents and students committed to the continuous improvement of urban regions and the planning enterprise. We are situated in one of the best urban/regional laboratories in the world, South Florida, and want to provide leadership in nationally significant and innovative research. The focus of our work relies on the recognition and use of multi-scalar connections and interactions of systems and planning activities. We encourage involvement in a range of governance activities including policy framework development, participatory decision-making and community stewardship. We encourage national and international engagement to broaden our access to new ideas and practices, as well as to innovative research and teaching that draws on planning’s visionary roots and looks ahead in new ways. We focus on educating future practitioners and researchers to enter national and global practice as leaders in managing change, developing new policy frameworks, and guiding decision-makers toward a future that is environmentally, economically, and humanly beneficial.

We offer a PAB-accredited Master degree and a Bachelors degree in Urban and Regional Planning at its headquarters on the downtown campus of FAU in Fort Lauderdale.  We are part of the College of Architecture, Urban and Public Affairs, which includes degree-granting units in Architecture, Criminology and Criminal Justice, Public Administration, and Social Work.  Further information about our College and the School can be found on our website: http://www.fau.edu/surp.  Florida Atlantic University is a comprehensive university and designated a Carnegie Doctoral/Research Universities-Intensive institution.  About 26,000 students attend the University.
