SURP and the Center for Urban Redevelopment Education co-sponser Land Use Institute
Seventy-Five Attorneys and Planners from 30 states and the District of Columbia gathered at the La Fonda Hotel in Santa Fe, New Mexico August 25-28 for the 26th annual Land Use Institute. This Continuing Education Program, organized and chaired by Center for Urban Redevelopment Education Director Frank Schnidman, was also simultaneously video web cast to numerous locations around the United States. In two and one-half days of plenary and concurrent sessions, participants covered more than 1300 pages of course materials and not only received an update on recent cases and local, state and federal regulatory activity, but also had detailed sessions on, among other topics, “Update on Climate Change and Land Use,” “Land Use and Water Supply Concerns,” “ Update on Public Private Partnerships,” “Land Use Aspects of Medical Marijuana,” “ and Green Audits of the Plan and Regulations.” The Legacy Presentation, “The Genesis of THE ZONING GAME,” was the recorded presentation by the late Richard F. Babcock, given June 13, 1984 at a seminar at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, MA. The Faculty Keynote Address was presented by University of Southern California Law School Professor George Lefcoe, who spoke on “Blight, TIFs, TODs and the Next 100 Million Americans.”
