On November 4th, 2009 the School of Urban and Regional Planning will officially turn 20 years old. This momentous anniversary is a cause for celebration; not only of the past, but also for the future. The students, faculty and staff at SURP are taking this opportunity to demonstrate that the past twenty years are to be celebrated, but the next twenty is always the focus of our work.

World Town Planning Day
On November 9th, 2009 the School celebrated World Town Planning Day, an international movement to recognize and promote the role of planning in creating livable communities.
In conjunction with the ongoing 20th anniversary celebration, SURP also opened a month-long exhibit in the 2nd Ave Studio on November 9th, featuring the work of current students, faculty and alumni. The exhibit opening featured the awarding of both the School’s first annual Distinguished Practitioner Award and Outstanding Alumni Award, to Gregory Stuart and Ambreen Bhatty, respectively. The awards were given to a non-alumnus and alumnus professional that have distinguished themselves by their work in planning or a planning-related field.
