University Student Conduct Board Training on 10/09, Sign Up by 10/02?

The Division of Student Affairs invites students to serve on the 2009-10 University Student Conduct Board. According to the Student Code of Conduct (Regulation 4.007), board members are "person(s) authorized by the University to determine whether a student has violated the Student Code of Conduct and may recommend sanctions that may be imposed to the Associate Vice President and Dean of Students."

What does this mean? Becoming a board member means you will be called upon periodically to hear minor and/or major student conduct cases depending on your previous experience. What a great opportunity to engage in the student conduct process. This is also a tool for those “teachable moments” which are valued in student affairs work.

What is the time commitment? On average, one to two hours, depending on the case that may be assigned to you. When a board member is needed, you will be contacted to check your availability to participate in a board hearing.

Membership Criteria Expectations:

  • Attend mandatory training session on Friday, Oct. 9, from 12 PM to 5 PM, and any other future mandatory trainings.
  • Participate in ongoing development workshops.
  • Become knowledgeable about all aspects of the FAU Student Code of Conduct, which can be found at http://wise.fau.edu/studentconduct/index.php?mainlinks=3.
  • Awareness and understanding of the student conduct review process.
  • Commitment to hearing participation (approx. 1-2 hours, 1-2 times a month).
  • Act as an effective and cooperative group member and maintain confidentiality at all times.

For students only:

  • Maintain at least a 2.5 GPA and full-time status
  • Must be an upper-division students (sophomore, juniors, seniors and graduate level)
  • Must be in good academic and student conduct standing with the university.

The office will host an University Student Conduct Board Training on Friday, Oct. 09 from 12:00 PM. to 5 PM. The location will be in the Student Union, Majestic Palm room, on the Boca Raton campus. Lunch will be provided. If you are interested in serving on the University Student Conduct Board, contact Terry Mena at tmena@fau.edu or call 561-297-3547 by Friday, Oct. 02nd.
