Jillian Coyne is a junior majoring in interdisciplinary studies and minoring in leadership. She was accepted to Florida Atlantic University from Sarasota, Fla.
“I chose FAU for the size. It was not too big, but also not too small. I liked the atmosphere that the school had when I came to visit. There was such positive energy that still surrounds me everyday. I will never regret my decision of choosing FAU,” said Coyne.
Working as a Resident Assistant in Glades Park Tower while also being the president of Sigma Kappa Sorority and a new member of the National Residency Hall Honorary is how Coyne stays active on campus.
She explained that the most difficult part of college so far has been finding personal time. Finding a balance between schoolwork, extracurricular activities, and fun has been a challenge, but she now makes sure to leave time for Netflix and Pinterest to unwind from her busy schedule.
Being a junior and having experience at FAU, we asked Coyne if she had any advice for incoming freshmen. She said, ”My advice is to get involved. The experiences that I have had here at FAU have made me into the person I am today. I am a stronger leader, student, worker and friend because of my university involvement. Stepping out of your comfort zone is scary, but it is so worth it in the end.”
Being involved around FAU campus has helped Coyne find her future career plan of choice. While working as a Resident Assistant for two years, she discovered her passion for student affairs.
In the next five years, Coyne hopes to complete graduate school and find a job. “I hope to find a job at a university and find what department I fit best in. I really want to help college students find their place in their new school environments, so that they can get the most out of their experience.”
