CORE: STAFF SUPERVISORS GUIDE
Welcome and thank you for your assistance in the onboarding process and development of our student employees in the Division of Student Affairs.

Attend a Supervisor Training Session. These 30 - 45 min training sessions will outline the requirements of the Core Training Program and discuss the two methods for student completion.
- One Day Model – Saturday, September 2, 2017 - 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Departmental Model – Department(s) choose dates and times and work with respective areas to coordinate
**Make sure to communicate with your student employees which option the department chooses
|Training Topic||Department||Point of Contact|

Monitor progress of your student employees and check in with them throughout the semester to follow up on what they learned in training. For all students that attend the training day, supervisors will be made aware of who attended.
In addition to the in-person trainings sessions all student employees are required to complete one online training called KOGNITO AT RISK FOR STUDENTS.
In this training, students will learn to recognize signs of psychological stress in fellow students and understand how to approach at-risk students and connect them to appropriate resources both on and off campus.
Please have students follow the instructions below to complete this component:
- Go to https://kognitocampus.com/login
- Create a New Account
- Use enrollment key: fau561
- Follow the on-screen instructions
- Choose your course and click "LAUNCH"
Upon completion, students should provide a copy of their certificate of completion to you. This can be done through email or printing a hard copy.
FAQ - Have a Question?
- Inform student hires of the Core Training Program requirements as early as possible to ensure they understand what is expected of them.
- Talk with the new hires about the training option your department has opted to utilize: one-day model or departmental model.
Verify completion of the program and check in with students throughout the semester.
Ultimately, the responsibility falls on the Director/Dean of the department to ensure that student employee supervisors are tracking progress.
There is no date of expiration trainings. It would be up to the supervisor if they would like the student to take a refresher.
Progress will be monitored by the direct supervisor. Attendance from the Core Training Day will be shared with the departments.
You have the option of arranging and coordinating with the departments listed a mid-semester training for your new hires. If you have very student new hires, you can contact Ella Tepper Feliciano (firstname.lastname@example.org) and look into partnering with other departments who may also be in the same situation.
Yes, the training sessions are offered each semester. Departments always have the option to coordinate them and there will be a Core Training Day designated every semester.
